About Shark Girl
Madi has had a long-term fascination with the ocean and all creatures within it, but has a particularly strong connection to an animal most humans fear – sharks. She is now on a fierce, sometimes misunderstood, campaigner of shark conservation, educating others and bringing awareness to the masses on the important place that sharks hold in the delicate ocean ecosystems.
This passion did not come about by chance. She spent a considerable amount of time with her father, who she affectionately calls a pirate, sailing and diving. At 12 Madison became a certified Open Water Diver and 2 years later she picked up her first underwater camera, negotiating with her father to leave mainstream education to be home schooled, and to use the money that would have been used on school fees to purchase an underwater video system. From that point on, the sharks, the Great Barrier Reef, and the oceans worldwide became her normality, her classroom and her home.
